College Financial Aid Question?

I am starting college in the fall and i applied for federal loans and have been approved and the college has received my info but they have not given me any info on when i will receive it, i heard people say you don't get it until 7 days after the first day you start, If that is true what other options do i have because i have no money and no way to even get to school for the first 7 days and have no money to pay for books or anything else.
